Listen to this episode of how a woman’s self-discovery started after retirement of an 21yr career.
WE ALL HAVE A STORY TO TELL. Life is just a book unfolding our truths line by line, paragraph by paragraph and chapter by chapter. There is a beginning (birth) middle (life) and end (death). At what point do we decide to write it all down. At birth we are presented with a birth certificate and after our home going service a death certificate. Well, what about the middle defined as life? Some will keep a journal which may only be read after your death. We will write up a resume documenting our experiences and skills. Our life story, where is it written? We may ask ourselves, is my story noteworthy? I say to you YES it is, not only is it noteworthy, you have a mandate; an obligation to your children’s children to document history, YOU are a part of their history. Also, there is someone in this world who needs to hear your story.
I was compelled to write my story a little over a year ago. This is my process of publishing my first book. I had a speaking engagement for a youth group which required a bio. Although, I had one on hand created by myself, I thought this would be a great opportunity to have a professional bio done. After reading the two page bio, I knew my story was noteworthy and needed to be written into a book. Next, I hired and editor because I needed structure. The first thing she said to me was “just write and have fun with it, don’t try to put it all in order, just write”. That was her job to put all the pieces together.
Six months later, I was feeling stuck and I needed to take the next step to putting my story into print form. Now, I could have done it on my own but I decided to take my story to a publisher to bring it all together. I’m so glad I did, with their professional inside they took my story and made it great.
I can now say I am an author. I hope I have inspired you to put pen to paper and write your story because it is noteworthy to be told. I’ll leave you with some simple steps to get started.
Recognize your life is noteworthy
Just write and have fun
Decide if you want to do it on your own or if you need help
Remember someone is waiting to hear your story, will you share it?
